Guided Fly Fishing Tours New Zealand

A typical day Fly Fishing with Stonethrow Guiding

Fly fishing boots and waders

Our goal at Stonethrow Fly Fishing is to give you a great fly fishing vacation. It all starts at your choice of time with a hearty breakfast. After breakfast you’ll meet your guide and we’ll get you outfitted in waders, boots and your choice of tackle.

We then drive through some beautiful farmland and maybe a stroll through stunning native bush to a secluded seldom fished New Zealand river that is full of an even mixture of Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout.

You’ll be instructed by our fly fishing guide, if you wish, as to the best method to entice the trout to your fly or nymph, after wrestling fish all morning your fishing guide will then serve you lunch on the riverbank - this is the perfect time for a siesta.

At this time of the day the sun is directly overhead, some trout are seen more readily and the excitement builds as the day passes. The photo moments in the afternoon are worth the wait as New Zealand rivers are spectacular at the end of the day.

You will then bid farewell to the river for the day and head home to share the days events over an ice cold beer or a great New Zealand wine. After your evening meal you may want to watch the fantastic evening rise, as the trout are literally a stone throw from your door. The current record from the pool in front of Stonethrow Lodge in one hour is eight fish! Come and break the record! A few hours rest and do it all over again!

New Zealand Fly Fishing Guides

At Stonethrow Fishing Lodge we have several fly fishing guides that specialise in different areas to make your New Zealand fishing holiday a success and will cater to your every need while on the river. Our fishingguides are serious fishaholics and are usually found on a great New Zealand river when not working, often calling these trips prospecting when anyone queries their sanity.
